How do I know if I'm logged in or not?
You should see your name displayed in the top-right hand corner of the window.
I can't seem to get logged in. Why?
Firstly, it is recommended that you double check your username is correct. This should be your network user ID. Please also ensure you are putting in the correct password. If this fails, finally try using a password that you may use for other applications as we are all human and tend to forget things from time to time!
If you still have problems after trying and checking all of the above then please contact William Mair.
How do I find courses that are relevant to me?
You firstly must ensure that you are logged in and on the homepage. You can use either the available menu system or the "curriculum hotlinks" which are designed to intuitively lead a user to their required destination. Previously used course areas can be found from the link titled My courses at the top right-hand corner of the window (under your name). This will entirely depend on whether you have enrolled or have privileged access to certain courses.
I have selected a course type, but it is asking me if I wish to enrol. What do I do?
If this course is relevant to you, then you should just proceed by selecting "Yes" as the option to enrol on the course. After doing so, you should now be able to see the area and its material. You have the option to unenrol at any point from the Administration block.
How do I return to the first page I saw when I was logging in?
The is known as the homepage. You can return here by clicking either on the "Borders" breadcrumb link or the in the top-left hand corner of the window or using the home icon (first item in the menu system).
How can I update my personal profile on Moodle?
Click on the "Update profile" link in the top-right hand corner of the window. You will then be given the chance to edit your details, and can carry out activities such as adding to your personal blog, etc.
Why can I not edit an area I teach in?
This is most likely because you have not requested lecturer access rights. To have these access rights set up for you then please contact William Mair.
Why do some of the items appear 'greyed out'?
These items have been deliberately hidden to some users, usually to prevent certain visibility until content has been completed or updated.
I have tried to access my course, but it is asking me for an enrolment key. How do I aquire this?
You will need to speak to the relevant lecturer or course tutor who will provide you with this for access to the area.
How do I change the layout and other such course details?
This can be achieved by using the Administration block that is available (usually on the left-hand side of a course area). In the "Settings" here, changes such as the number of topics, course availability and enrolment options can be made.
How do I avoid the possibility of infringing copyright over the use of images?
The simplest way to achieve this is to use your own images. Alternatively, it is completely acceptable to use images from Microsoft’s clip-art (e.g. Word, PowerPoint), or from a website that holds images as part of a Creative Commons license. A good source for this is FlickrCC, which is available at the following URL: http://flickrcc.bluemountains.net/ , where you can freely use these images providing you correctly attribute them (instructions on how to do this are included on the website).
What standards and file types will Moodle recognise?
Moodle will generally recognise most common file types and standards for embedding content within a particular course space. You should find that most document formats and most media formats will be handled comfortably, however if you are unsure and wish to be certain about a specific file type then please contact William Mair.
What other kinds of Moodle training is available?
Usually you will find that Moodle is offered as training for various Continuous Professional Development (CPD) events within the College. Alternatively, one-to-one training is always available at any point by simply contacting William Mair and arranging a meeting.
